German Walther P38 Pistol

Flag_of_the_NSDAP_(1920–1945).svgHere is the last Walther P38 semi-automatic pistol I needed for my accumulation. I wanted one made by each of the three manufacturers, Walther, Mauser and Spreewerk. This one is marked AC44 meaning it was manufactured by Walther in 1944. It also is well stamped with the E/WaA359 acceptance stamps for Walther. My Mauser made one is here, my Spreewerk one is here. Now I have to find another 359 marked magazine for it and a holster. By this stage in the war the Jerries had pretty much stopped making the hard shell holsters and this would have come with a breakaway soft holster.

HELLO AGAIN, I HAVE 3 P38 S. THE LAST OF 3. MY BELOVED BROTHER -WHO IS NOT A COLLECTOR AND IS ENTERTAINED BY MY ENTHUSIASM- FOUND A NICE ONE FOR A FAIR PRICEAND BROUGHT IT TO ME.THE CODE WAS A MYSTERY TO ME TILL I SAW THE SAME P38 W/THE SAME 480 CODE (MAUSER,TURNS OUT) ON A FRIEND’S SITE. HIS PRICE(MY PISTOL WAS IN BETTER COND.) WAS $ 28.00.00 + I ALMOST PEED MY MARINE CORPSE SKIVVIES. TILL THEN I HAD NO IDEA A P38 COULD APPROACH SUCH A FIGURE. I STILL HAVE IT. I SUPPOSE YOU KNOW THIS SITE IS THE ” GO TO ” PLACE
MANY THANX AGAIN, JIM LONG USMC RET.

    • Hi Jim. The 480 code Walther P38 you have is for Walther, not Mauser. Walther was assigned this code in 1940 and it was used on the second run of pistols, making your example very early and rather desirable. I am never surprised by the prices I see on the Internet, just remember that these are “ask” not what the item actually sells for. Thanks for haunting my humble site, this is just a place for me to note the bits and pieces I pick up so having an audience is a real bonus :)
