German RAD Subordinate Hewer

Flag_of_the_NSDAP_(1920–1945).svgHere’s a fair straightforward find from a market down in Southern Ontario. This is a RAD hewer for an enlisted man, manufactured in 1935 based on the logo from Carl Eickhorn. This logo was used between 1933 & 1935 and the RAD (Reichsarbeitsdienst) was formed in January of 1935. The logo on the dagger “Arbeit adelt” sort of means that labour enobles you.

Hitler reviews members of the RAD organisation, Zeppelin Field, Nuremberg, 1938. The man to his left wearing the RAD Subordinate Hewer is Konstantin Hierl, leader of the RAD.
