G33/40 Brno Bayonet

Posted in Edged Weapons with tags , , , , on February 2, 2017 by The Dude

Flag_of_the_NSDAP_(1920–1945).svg800px-Flag_of_CzechoslovakiaThis bayonet is the correct one for any German G33/40 Mauser. The bayonet superficially looks similar to the one for the K98 however the blade edge is reversed and the ring has been machined off. These bayonets were manufactured by Brno between 1940 and 1942. This one is marked dot on the bayonet and dot42 on the sheath.

End of the War Novelty Panties

Flag_of_the_United_StatesIn the great tradition of “a serviceman and his backpay are soon parted” we bring you tiny novelty underwear. As the demobilisation of the US Forces got underway from September 1945 these troops, soldiers, sailors and airmen were shipped through a small number of West Coast ports on their way back through the system and ultimately home to civilian life. Along the way enterprising merchants attempted to siphon as much of the serviceman’s demob pay as possible and this little item is just one example of the methods they used. I find it kinda interesting because beyond the obvious puns being used here, it also plays to the fear of the cuckold and the “Dear John” letter that servicemen endured.

Carcano M1891 Bayonet

Flag_of_Italy_(1861-1946)When I put a rifle back together I do my best to put the correct sling and bayonet with it, for completeness and to feed my OCD. A couple of months back I added a Carcano M91/41 rifle to the box and after a bit of searching, here’s the correct M1891 bayonet for it. A bit of a scrubber but I didn’t want to pay through the nose. This one is made by Terni.

Kreigsmarine EM cockade

Flag_of_the_NSDAP_(1920–1945).svgSimple little add here. This is a metal, bakelite and cloth roundel or cockade in the national colours used on enlisted men’s soft caps in all three services. In this case the KM Donald Duck cap below was missing one when I got it, although it had the slots where one would have fitted. An easy cheap fix, unlike most of the rabbit holes I go down.

Kreigsmarine EM/NCO Donald Duck Cap

Flag_of_the_NSDAP_(1920–1945).svgI have field caps for the Luftwaffe and Heer and have been looking for a KM one for a while. This one came relatively cheap from a trip to Belleville although it is missing its cockade on the front. I will look for one of these in the meantime but I am happy with the look of this. Note, the post-war hats are almost identical except that the inside liner is white in colour.

Imperial Japanese Navy Flag

Flag_of_Japan.svgThe Japanese Army and Navy both used the Rising Sun Flag as their battle flag. The difference between the two uses was that the Navy one was offset from center toward the lanyard while the Army one was centered. This example is the Navy version. I also have a Hinomaru flag here. I have a smallish Jap collection, mostly because my grandfather fought the bastards. I think if I could find a nice farewell flag or a souvenir signed flag I’d be done.

Kriegsmarine Officer’s Belt & Buckle

Flag_of_the_NSDAP_(1920–1945).svgEver since that KM Dagger walked into my life a few months ago I have been looking for a good Officer belt and buckle to hang it off. The dagger came with the narrow undress belt but I wanted the broader undress belt. Here it is, lovely.
